I have 2 five day old silkie chicks They have been picking alot are they to young to dust?

I wouldn't dust them at that age unless they have mites or lice.

Are they picking each other? If so, there is a different problem that dusting will not cure.

They may be too hot or too crowded.

We need a little more info, please.

I am glad someone brought seven dust up... We called the company today to talk to them about their product because I was unsure what to get; they said not to use sevens dust on poultry or anywhere they range becasue it can and will make them very sick and can ummm no easy way to say this, but it can bring an untimely death. I was wondering if anyone else has used this product and had any troubles. I know I have read that a few have used it... but what kind are they using??? I need something for my chicks and now i'm affraid to use anything. Can anyone set me straight besides DE since I can not seem to find it locally and will have to order it.
Thanks for any info...

Hmmm interesting! Thank you for that... that is the exact stuff I had in my hot little hands at the store and the product we called about that they said not too. Hmmm guess someone at the company does not know their own product! Although for some reason I could not get the label to come up. But I have to run back out so will re-read the label and see where I missed it. Thanks for the info!!! Its good info to know!

if you look at your petstore in the bird section they should have a spray which can be used on the birds...protect their nares (nostrils ) and eyes while spraying and if you have a choice get the pump one instead of the aerosol...

Thanks for the information.Im not sure if they have mites or lice they just started picking alot. One of my chicks is picking its wing feathers not much there anymore.I do believe he is doing it himself its just him and one other chick one is 9 days old the other is6 days old they have plenty of room and there not to cold or to hot.He is eating and drinking I feed them a starter/grower crumble. My 6 day old had splayed legs i used a bandaid and there normal now.Should I be giving them any kind of vitimins?
Thanks

it is always a good idea to have on hand a good vitamin/nutritional supplement (a good one is Avia Charge 2000 which can be ordered online from McMurry or Strombergs) and electrolytes/vitamins (only give this in emergencies when you fear dehydration or when they are obviously stressed)
