I have been watching one particular hen. She is extremly noisy in the morning for about half hour, wondering around. So i watched her, she then dissappeared into some tall grass, after she came back, I went to where she had been, and found a nest with 6 eggs. Was she collecting? Then going to sit? This same hen recently gave us a brood of 14 chicks

She is starting a new clutch of eggs. Once she has laid 'enough', she will set and raise another brood. Is her chosen nest site safe from predators?

Thank you for your response, that was my thought, but I found it quite odd that she would lay in the roadside ditch, which answers your question about safety. We have skunks, and I am surprised there were any eggs at all. I went ahead and gathered them, and am hoping she finds refuge in another spot. Now that I have collected them, will she resume a new clutch?

I know zero about broody hens I have a broody Brinsea. But couldn't you just lock her up in her coop so she would be safe & let her lay the clutch in there. I'm just curious. Seems like to me well I couldn't leave a chicken outside over night something would eat it or a snake would eat the eggs.

my chickens do have a pen that they roost in at nite, during the day they are free to roam wherever, if i find a new clutch forming in an unsafe spot, i amgoing to collect them and move them somewhere safe, show her, and keep you posted if she adopts new location. thank you for your responses, it helped:)
