Black Copper Marans Rooster. I've him and 2 hens for about 3 years, so he's older than 3. New to chickens and to be honest was not properly educated on them, I've only recently started learning more in depth. That being said I don't know if I got him in this condition but I only just realized it was an issue when I asked a Facebook page if his feet were normal, to my dismay far from it, and started treating immediately.

They told me he has bumble foot and scaly leg mites.

One full week of warm soapy, epson salt soaks. I slather in Vaseline, and every other day has been olive oil spray. Someone told me it's too late and it may be septic, they said if he's acting sick. I think that he acts normal, he doesn't act sickly, I can tell his feet are in pain. I have a local vet who treats chickens, but from what I've seen my husband will not let me spend that money on a vet for him, he'd rather buy a new rooster.

He's a great rooster and cares for the hens, please tell me there's hope. Help!

Do his feet seem painful or does he look limp? I think I would continue treating his legs with the soaks and applying oil. The bumble foot scabs don’t look terrible. The main thing I see is inflammation and missing feathers. That enlarged area on the front on his right foot looks odd. Here is a good article about bumblefoot for you to read:

Here is another on scaly leg mites:

He does not look limp, but I do think they cause him pain, he seems to lift one often. I definitely will continue treatments, and was planning to get the scabs on the bottom off. Yes I’ve been so afraid/ worried about that top enlarged area, I don’t know if it’s a cyst I should remove or what. I’m going to pic up some baytril from the vet tomorrow to see if that will help the infection. Thanks for the reply and links.

So
I’m sorry, I meant to say does he limp? Baytril would probably help, if there is infection. Let us know what they say.

So, just looking up baytril, I see there is lots of controversy, but I see that related to eating eggs from hens, should I be worried? It’s not an issue since he’s a rooster and won’t be eating him right?

Hey guys, I wanted to post an update. I feel like I see some improvement. I don’t think his feet will ever look normal.
He had 7 days of baytril injection. today I gave him an Epson salt bath with elector psp in it as well.
What do you all think?
