Just rescued these babies from a terrible situation. Hoping it’s not too late for all of them. Upon further investigation I found out that not only have they been neglected they’ve been starved no surprise. Hoping to someday let them out with my other birds. This is Day one of medicating leg mites. Updates will follow as they improve.

How are you treating the leg mites?
Hopefully these birds are quarantined as far from your birds as possible.
They are quarantined and won’t be able to be around them until no more signs of mites or sickness. I went to Tractor Supply asked for the Nu-Stock they didn’t have it but recommended the chicken mite and lice powder. I’d read about using petroleum jelly so I picked up bag balm mixed the two together for better coverage and slathered it on to coat well. I will be repeating in 3 days with soaking in the epson salt bath. If no improvements I will be changing my strategies.

I have a couple suggestions.
Brush perches and chickens' legs once a month with a mixture of one part kerosene to two parts linseed oil.
Ivermectin is also a good control. For LF, 1/4 cc by mouth. There will probably be an egg withdrawal period.

Thank you very much will also try this. Anything to give them relief and a better chance of recovery is worth a shot. Do I do the kerosene mixture on their legs after they’ve cleared up or now? How long are the eggs no good once using the ivermectin?

Do the kerosene/linseed mix now. That will smother them. You can continue your other therapy but I probably would lay off the Epsom salt bath since it won't really hurt the mites. You can do that after they are eradicated. I think the link I gave you says a week egg withdrawal.

Wow, I've never seen a case of scaly leg mites even near that bad. Is that just dirt, or could the leg be infected as well? I hope you're able to make the chickens feel better!

None of that on the legs is dirt. It’s all their poor little legs inflamed. I plan to get them to the vet next week he was booked up this week. Well at least one bird because they’re all in bad shape he’s just worse. They were living in a dark feces ridden coup with no light except 5 had light but no run to be outside.

It appears to be working. I went ahead and done another slather today on their legs and feet and the scales on one were coming off in my hand. Yea GROSS but it’s working. The big boy is yet to be determined as his are terrible but it’ll take some time for him I’m sure. I also went ahead and dusted their bodies as I ruffled their feathers back I noticed little white mites on their feathers (cause of feather loss).
