Hello! I have a light brahma roo that seems to have a severe case of leg mites. I've been soaking his feet in mild unscented soap and doing olive dips on his feet, but doesn't seem to be getting any better. His skin is now getting red and raw. HELP!
I made a paste of triple antibiotic with diatomaceous earth today, hope that helps. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I've attaches a photo. Not a great photo as I just washed his feet and applied ointment

Hi,
I wonder if the red areas could be broken feather sites?

I accidentally brought in scaly leg mites to my flock about 6 years ago. I tried all kinds of things, oils, vaseline, vetrx, etc. What finally worked was applying Nustock. It is a stinky, sulfur based ointment marketed for horses, but works wonders on all kinds of chicken wounds and issues. You can get it online.

Or, you can get pure sulfur powder from a garden center, or online, and add it to a carrier oil or ointment, and coat his legs with that.

Now, you won't see the scales go down when you have a bad infestation. Sometimes you have to wait til they molt the scales - maybe a year....but you will not see it getting worse.

Because of the red areas, I would be very careful not to irritate his skin/scales further - a break in skin can result in infection. The sulfur will be a good idea for that too.

Good luck!
