I would try to give him some pain relief. A baby aspirin once a day might make him feel better. If it’s an option, prescription medication from a vet would be better.

I must’ve missed it. I’ve cleaned it and added antibiotic ointment, but I think he might need more serious treatment. I’ve attached a photo from yesterday. Some of the black/grey scab over the yellow came off, so it’s even more pus than visible here. He’s otherwise normal (eating, drinking, preening), at least. Any thoughts?I'd continue to clean it.
