Severe sinus infection, what can I do? Been to Dr three times already!

I use the saline rinses, but mine is a squeeze bottle, not the pot. You can usually find them at CVS and Walgreens. I also take suedefed, Claratin or benedryl depending on time of day and what's available. And I have prescription rhinocort that I spray up my nose twice a day. If outdoor allergies are your problem, you may want to try a spoonful of raw honey once a day. It must be produced within 50 miles of your home. The honey will supply your body with small doses of allergens for area pollens. It will help your body build up antibodies. An allergy test may also be a good idea as many sinus infections are triggered by allergens.

I finally went to an ENT specialist at the suggestion of my allergist. My last few sinus infections (and I got them at least twice a year) were taking three courses of antibiotics before they completely cleared up. I was diagnosed with a deviated septum which was preventing my frontal lobe from draining properly. As soon as one round of antibiotics would clear up the infection, the remaining stuff stuck in my frontal lobe would get infected again. I had daily headaches from November until my surgery in May. It also triggered several migraines. I'm now nearly headache free and I haven't had a sinus infection since.

Yes, I still do the rinses and medications to help with seasonal allergies and nasal swelling, but my sinuses are now structurally more capable to deal with the swelling and drainage.

I didnt read thru the whole thread so this may be a repeat.

Go to the dollar store and buy a pack or two of new toothbrushes and change your toothbrush every other day. I have heard that you can keep reinfecting yourself by not changing the toothbrush. The... umm drainage that goes down the throat also ends up in your mouth.

I used to get sinus infections that would hang around for weeks, now it seems that I only get them for a week. Hope you get better soon.

Make this soup:

1 c. sliced peeled carrots
1 c. diced celery INCLUDING leaves
1 c. cubed potatoes with peel
2 Tbs. fresh ginger, minced fine (cut in itty bitty pieces)
2 cloves of garlic (the banana shaped pieces that come from a bulb of garlic) Chop this, use already chopped, or use whole.
1 chopped onion

1 Tbsp dried rosemary leaves, broken up
1 Tbsp dried parsley
1 tsp ground sage
1 tsp salt
Black pepper to taste

2 Tbsp powdered chicken bouillon
2 Tbsp olive oil

Heat the olive oil in the bottom of a large soup pot. Saute the first group of ingredients in the oil, browning them a little, until the onions are soft. Add the spices to the oil and stir for a minute or so. Add the chicken bouillon powder and stir, then add enough water (about a quart to a quart and a half) to cover the veggies. Simmer it for about 45 minutes.

We call it medicine soup, and we invented it by using the books about herbs and such that use a lot of things that are good for you.
You can add some chopped cooked chicken to it if you want, but we mostly use it like this. We think it works wonders!
