Have two turkey chicks three weeks old. One has severe spraddling I think. I needed some guidance. I rehab mammals but took these in yesterday to learn more. One chick is less severe and doing well with the vet wrap to hold legs. Don't know how to help the other. Thanks for your help in advance.

The one pictured looks like slipped tendon aka perosis. Treating slipped tendon as if it is spraddle leg will not help.

The tendon has to be manipulated back into place and then secured there. It can be caused by improper feed for turkey poults. It can also be due to an inherited tendency to the condition.

Turkey poults need a high protein turkey or game bird starter for the first 6 to 8 weeks. It has the higher levels of protein, lysine, methionine and niacin that poults need for their rapid growth and proper development.

You can do a search in the Emergencies / Diseases / Injuries and Cures forum for slipped tendon or perosis. The treatment is the same for turkeys or chickens.

It has to be caught and treated early for any hope of success. The prognosis is not good for that one.
