Hey guys and gals, I have 6 different breed chicks, the largest out of the bunch has been growing like wildfire, I had no idea about pasty butt and ended up cleaning off all chicks 4 days ago. Noticed the bigger chicks stomach was really drooping below vent. Cleaned her spotless and it's only getting bigger, hasnt passed anything since. shes been eating and drinking until today. Getting to the point she cant really walk and has been huddled by herself on cool side of brooder, Have given her a few warm baths just did some applesauce with honey followed by massaging and it worked! All over my shirt, back in brooder 7 hours later nothing more has passed. Stomach is still large with heavy breathing. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Additional info: rectum pulsating at times, stomach is pretty hard and also hot, did swab oil around vent.

Welcome To BYC

Can you get a photo of her poop?
Is her vent clear and open?

The swelling/large stomach that is hard and labored breathing is concerning.
She may be constipated I would try giving her a little coconut oil.
That swelling, labored breathing, etc. could be infection of yolk sac - Omphalitis - hard to know. Possibly Ascites. Was her navel (belly button) closed when you got her? Any redness of the navel - it's hard to see her belly - is it an odd color - purple/green or inflamed looking?

Mixed chick food into applesauce with some prune puree and honey, also honey and water. She loved it. massaged for a bit then she kept jumping on my shoulder, then onto back of couch. I turn around and see this happen. But stomach is much softer. She goes to sleep when massaging it so not really tender. She likes to eat I'll see her fall asleep in the food bowl. Walking seems to be getting a little better. She had bad pasty butt and it took forever to clean, I've been thinking she had gotten completely backed up

Hopefully she will start to improve.

If it's difficult to clean her, soak her bottom in a little warm water first to soften the poop, then use running warm water to help flush it off. Their skin is very delicate and can tear easily.
Dry her well so she doesn't chill, use a hair dryer. After she's dried, apply a dab of vaseline, coconut oil, etc. to the vent this will help the poop roll off and not stick so bad.

What is the temperature in your brooder - you have a photo of the brooder set-up?
