Hi all - I'd love to hear your thoughts. I can't figure out what is going on with one of my beloved barred rock hens. She is skin and bones, still has an appetite, but can't seem to get over her digestive issues and gain weight.
History: It's now been more than 2 months since her first symptom, diarrhea, started. I started giving her yogurt and more protein in the form of mealworms. It didn't resolve. It then led to a nasty flystrike just below her vent, which I successfully treated with SWAT, hydrogen peroxide, and a ton of extra love. I caught the subsequent flystrike much sooner and it resolved in a day, fully healed in 3. I'm voting for no more flystrike ever.
Because her diarrhea was continuing, even with no visible signs, I treated the whole flock for the first time for worms (safeguard).
She can't seem to shake the diarrhea and has understandably gotten more and more lethargic and her comb has gotten dusky. But she still clearly wants to eat, play, and interact.
Any thoughts on what this could be? I had a Java with very similar symptoms for about 2 weeks that died in the middle of this saga.
These are extremely pampered hens, normally super lively, happy, and super personable following me around like puppies.
