Sevin (bug killer) and eggs

How long does bug killer stay in eggs? We have tons of ants that are biting our dogs. We want to kill the ants, but our chickens love going out into the yard and eating bugs. We are sure the pesticide would go into the eggs. Is the amount dangerous for us (in the eggs) or the chickens (for their food)? We are plannig on using Sevin/Seven (sp?).

Maybe try Diatomaceous Earth on them instead. That way you wouldn't have to worry about pesticides in your eggs. I give diatomaveous earth to my goats and sprinkle it in my coop to help keep down bug issues. It will also help keep down parasites that could come into contact with your animals.

I started it with my goats because they had goat lice and it actually cleared up some dry skin my little boy goat had on his tail and he because more active (I think he was sick from where I got him due to a weak immune system and he was kind of slow... I thought I had a mentally challenged goat.... ) Get food grade diatomaceous earth available at your local fed store. It is safe for you, your chickens and your dogs. It will also keep the ants from biting your dogs. You can apply it into their food and sprinkle it right into their coat. It will also help with fleas if they have them. We used to get fleas from the deer when I lived in Pennsylvania... Tried everything and I wish I knew about this stuff at the time!

I live in PA, so I feel your frustration. Tics, ants, fleas....oh, my!

Actually Sevin dust powder is more on the safe side of insecticides. Try just using a very light dusting of this product. Sevin is recommend in use in your vegetable gardens too.
