Sevin Dust Question

I have been fighting northern fowl mites since the first of the year and I tried the bird in a bag idea -- forget it -- the bird shreds the bag as someone said. I use Eprinex also but I found a bird yesterday with mites and treated him in the morning before work. After work, he still had mites so I'm not sure if I have mites that have become resistant to it, or if it takes longer than 9 hours to work. I also like the Sevin spray (water based) when the weather is warm. Take out the bedding, spray the coop and put in fresh bedding.

I know this is an old thread, but am hoping that someone can provide a link to anything scientific that says it's really safe to eat the eggs after treating birds themselves and/or their housing and premises with carbaryl, the active ingredient in Sevin Dust, and permethrin. I am finding conflicting information, and one abstract I found said that toxins can be found in the egg yolk for up to 56 days after treatment.
We treated just the coop and run without the birds being there, since they didn't have any mites on them, but have been discarding the eggs for 4 days now, which is EXTREMELY hard for me to do, as I'm very frugal and I absolutely HATE waste of any kind.

hi, i was looking on here for the answer to eating the eggs after dusting coop with Sevin as well. Glad it's ok to eat the eggs! anyway, we have an outdoor wood boiler and i recently put a bin with wood ash in the run for them to use because i read that it is the best treatment for external parasites and mine seem to have mites on body as well as scaly leg mites. i should have dusted them all manually but they love their dust baths so i just put it in there and they will do the rest. the Sevin seems to be helping in the coop, i think. those little mites hide in every corner so i thought that was the best approach for the coop and i did put some on the roost as well. One of my hens had very rapidly lost vent feathers and top of wing feathers as well as shaking her head frequently, so i assumed it was mites . and since treating it 7 days ago, i already see re-growth on the feathers all over her. i have had my chickens for about 1 1/2 years so i am a newbie also. i have 4 Pekin ducks too that are 5 in the spring. they are in the same fenced area with the chickens but separate run and house, and haven't shown any signs of mites themselves. good luck! oh i did also just learn that fresh garlic cloves are good for internal parasites as well, and they also will eat some of the wood ash themselves for possibly the same reason. I did dust my one hen with this stuff called Buck Mountain Parasite Dust. It contains Neem which is a natural parasite controller, non toxic. VERY expensive though. i originally bought it for my dogs for fleas and it worked initially, it didnt work long enough on them, so i use it for the chickens. but it was $47.99 for 8 oz.can. i goes a long way but is still very pricy

can I use adams flea dip on chicks too
