My egg-lady friend & chicken farming mentor recently told me that you can determine the sex of the chick in the egg by the shape of the eggs, round= pullets, elongated oval = cokerels. Have you ever heard of such a thing?

My Andalusians have never laid a round egg always elongated oval shaped.
So if this was true then we would never have a pullet to hatch.

maybe it just mostly true. my son has done three hatches kept maticulous records followed the birds for a home school study of this"tale" margin of error for 120 eggs (3 batches) was 2 eggs per batch. now on 4th hatch then chose only rounded eggs so we will see... fun testing the theory and educational.

wives tale if I ever heard one. My Mille Fleur Bearded D'Uccles lay nice elongated eggs and two hens hatched babies last year and I got all females...YAYYYY...

Has been discussed alot. Absolutely not true. Almost wish it was. I have had three Barred Rock roosters since my Hawkeye died, all his sons with my Lexie. Lexie's eggs are so oval, sometimes I have to shine a light through to see which end has the aircell before setting them. A good 90% of her chicks are males.

Logically, if it was a fact, then hatcheries would only set the exact number of "rooster eggs" they needed and many of those male chicks wouldn't become reptile food.
