Sex Changes????

We swore it was a girl.My Dad's been hunting ducks for years and was shocked when he saw her pic.We gave them to a RV resort down the road with a pond and when visiting them one day went "what the hay happened,can they do that"?

Her colors ar kinda smudgey but changed just the same,she became "Just one of the guys".

If you're dealing with Mallard ducklings, don't forget they feather in looking like a female - you gotta wait for the drake feather to show up before you know for sure. Not to mention, adult males go thru an "eclipse" molt after breeding season and look almost like females.

Taking on the appearance and characteristics of the opposite sex doesn't make them that sex. They are still not able to perform as that sex was designed to do. So they really haven't changed. It's not much definate than a woman with a mustache wearing mens clothes.
 
After reading the story again, I see that it ever actually said "she" layed an egg, just that she set on the eggs. I think it was just a roo all along.
