buff is a sort of red correct? If so maybe. The white hen has to carry the silver gene.

No, it usually does not work. The hen has to be a specific genotype to work. Most people think you can cross just any gold male with a silver female and get red sex linked. The birds must be specific genotypes for the sexing accuracy to be above 90%.

Buff male birds can be used for sex linked crosses but the female chicks tend to have a down color that is difficult to classify.

I have written over 30 pages in my book just on red sex linked crosses. It is actually more complicated than most people realize.
