Do female black sex links ever show faint barring?

And Do EE or Buff Orps feather out differently as chicks for male/female??

I have two black sex links that are one week old and getting their wing feathers. They are the same size and same feather development, but one has the very faintest barring on it's wings. It also has the very smallest little white dot on head.. very, very small white dot. Is this a rooster?

And I have 7 EE that are feathering out all the same, but one is this Godzilla of a chick... we named it Zilla....It is MUCH bigger than all the others which are all the same size, but they are all feathering out at same rate.

Ditto with the Buff Orps... we have three BO, but 2 are HUGE... really humongous.... and one is 1/2 the size of the other two, but they are all feathering out at the same rate????

So are all these roosters??? Thanks.. Suz

No- black sex-links should not have barring unless they are males.

EEs are a tough one, but I've had Orp roos feather more slowly than females. Not always though!

Compare the chicks legs- they can be a great indicator. Really thick legs usually indicate a roo- unless it's like a cornish or something.

The white dot on your black sexlink gives it away as a male, that is how they are sexed.Females wont have any white on their heads, only black or reds.

As for the size thing, I have a BO that towers over my other BO, same age.She has since day 1. Being taller doesnt mean boy necessarily.

First that is a classic BSL roo
If we could sex chicks by the size that would make it WAY too easy

It really has nothing to do with it..often my hoss chicks came from my bigger eggs but end up pullets as often as little roos.Then with EE's you have to factor in they have different breeds in them so little chick may have smaller breeds and Hoss could have some of the larger breeds.
All breeds will have the big and small chick thing in the same hatch.In one of my Dec Ameraucana hatches it is a pullet that is twice the size of the good sized roo
