Hello all,

I have two sex-linked pullets (brahmaR × CreamLegbarH). Those two both have a barred gene right? So, if I cross them to a BCM will the chicks be sex-linked?

Why do you say they are sex linked? Which variety of Brahma was the sire? Do you see barring in the pullets? They should not have a barred gene unless the sire had a barred gene, and I have not seen Barred Brahmas. If the pullets had the barred gene, then only make offspring would have a copy of the barred gene if mated to a Black Copper Marans male.

This generic stuff Is confusing me....
The father was either a Dark or a Buff Brahma.

It does not have to confuse you. It is good that you ask questions. If a gene is sex linked, a female would have one copy, and the make would have one or two copies. In the case of the parents of your pullets, the mother was barred, but only passed that to her sons. The father was not barred, so neither pullet should be barred.

In order to get sex-links the mother needs to be barred right? Or does it not matter?...

It depends on what type of sex links you want. If the mother were barred, males would have a head spot at a day old, and females would not.
