How about a delaware cock. They grow fast and large. And aren't they silver?

Well shoot i guess the buff hens will be kept for another type of projectBuff Orpingtons have gold not silver, so the hens cannot be used to make red sex links. Buff Orpingtons are not barred so the hens can’t be used to make black sex links. Out of luck there.
According to the chart in the first post in this thread, Orpingtons should be slow feathering. That means you can cross the hens with any of the fast-feathering breeds in the left side of that chart to get feather sexed chicks. I’m very cautious about depending on that because the birds are not always as pure for the fast or slow feathering gene as they should be, but at least you have a chance that way.
There are other ways to sex chicks too, like leg color, but I’m not familiar enough with those methods to know if there is anything along those lines you can use with Buff Orps.
Great can mean different things to different people. Cross a Buff Orpington with any other dual purpose breed that you think is great and you should get great chickens.
Well shoot![]()
when i say good i'm talking about something like this boy here
he is a buff orpington from a line that meets the SOP for the breed
he is still growing but should reach 15lbs or so
i like large chickens that are great on the table
if they will give about 4 eggs a week most of the year that's even better
If read the chart on the 1st page rite i can put him over a SLW hen
the other breeds that i have are black blue & splash imported english orpingtons
not so sure that they will help with making what i want
will a SLW hen help me here at all?
then i have what i call New England Whites
daddy was a splash orpington momma was a French Bresse
all the offspring are 99.5% white with just a couple splash feathers
the mom is my best layer
giving up often 6 eggs a week
thanks for your help heading me in the right direction

Can you tell me if I can tell male female with a French Black Copper Maran Roo with a Barred Rock Hen. I have one fixing to hatch in the next few days and was wondering if I could tell if it was a pullet or not.

FBCM Roosters are not listed as a possibility so they must not make reliable sex links. I think you should get into the 85% range though.
That is great to know!I have been doing this cross, BCM rooster x Barred hens, for about 2 years now with 100% accuracy for Black Sexlinks. That is my experience with it anyhow.
