Can I use a blue australop roo over barred plymouth rock hens to get sexlink chicks
Yes
I purchased 5 New Hampshire red roosters and 10 white Plymouth Rock hens. Because of predators I'm down to 1 roo and 8 hens. I'm trying to produce golden sex links. But when the chicks hatched they were all barred. Does any one have any suggestion to wether the problem is with the genes of the roo or the wrong breed hen? I Waited over 6 months for the hens to start laying only to find they don't produce that golden color I was hopping for.![]()
Everything said on the subject being true, I am perplexed that you got barred pullets from a non-barred rooster. I know that they aren't gold. but are you sure the girls are barred?
A lot if folks just jump in trying to produce Sexlinks without reading the thread. That us why there is so many " can I cross this rooster to this hen" questions. Please folks read the first post or three. You will usually get your answer,
The answer to the White Plymouth Rock/New Hampshire question is that the White Rock hens are not silver based hens. The chart tells you that. No surprise to me.
Got all that. I'm not stupid or ignorant of the genetics. But, Barring (other than autosomal barring, which seems unlikely in this case) is a sex linked trait idependent of Silver/Gold (S,s+) For the female, it has to come from the father. My question, which I ask for my own edification, is adressed to 19CBG80.
I'm planning on hatching Ark Blue eggs from Ron @ronott1 this spring which will have blue or black feathering. I know they have leghorn and Ameraucanas in their genetics as they lay blue eggs. Next year I'd like to cross a Ark Blue Ro over California Gray(productive white egg layer) and also Barred Rock and get Black sex-linked chicks. Will this work?
No I haven't read the entire thread but I studied the first page at least 20 times. My question is concerning the Ark Blue Ro that will have blue or black feathering however it does have white leghorn in it's lineage. Could this cause the sex-linking not to work?...Just making the observation that most don't read the thread.
