Sex- linked Information

Yep, if you breed White Patterned Sexlinks together, you should get, White tailed Red Pullets ( like the sexlink hens), Black tailed Red pullets ( like production Reds), Silver Columbian pullets ( like a Light Sussex), And Solid White ( White tailed Silver Columbian) like RIWs. The roosters would be the same but the white Columbian/White ones would also have some gold coloring coming through.

*raises hand*

I know that Jerseys are slow feather so a hen mated with a fast feather (minorca for instance) roo will result in feather sexable chicks...

But can Giants be used to create color sexed chicks? Saw the bit about white birds being tricky, so I doubt I'd even try that.
But what about black ones? Do they have the allele needed?

Since JG's are The Chicken for capons, seems like it'd be awesome if you could sex them immediately so you'd know which to snip,
and which to keep as layers and eventually large roasters. Could totally do that with feather sexing too, but SL is easier on the eyeballs.

Haven't yet found any info on JG Sex Linking in specific so thought I throw that idea out there. Is it remotely possible, or a total no?

Since BRs are in the Barred Female Extended Black Group could Cuckoos or Doms work too then?

A Maran is a little larger, eggs are a little larger and are a pretty color to boot... but they are not a heritage or accepted (yet are they?) so there's a trade off. In theory you could keep a flock of JGs for themselves (eggs, chicks, hatching eggs), you could keep the Maran/Rock/Dom flock for themselves and then mix the two when capons are wanted...

Eh, it's a thought. The idea of having to order chicks every year for meaties just rubs me wrong for some reason.

My top post was supposed to be any color of Javas would work for the roosters.

Yes Barred Rocks, Dominiques, Cuckoo Marans, and anything else would work as the hens.

The best meat cross I would recomment that would be fit for regular farm life would be to get some Cornish Cross hens and raise them just like you would with regular hens, and they will be a bit lighter and healthier, and breeder them with what ever large breed roo you want, Like a Jersey Giant . I have bred them with BA, RIR, and BO roos and the offspring grew very fast and meaty on a regular chicken diet. This is what i am going to be doing again this year if TSC gets in more CX chicks.
