Sex- linked Information

Can you see the difference between male and female in the lavender chicks? Seems like it would be hard. I assume the black chick with the white spot on his head is male. Of course as soon as you can see Cukoo barring on the feathers you'll know those are male.

I'm crossing abarred rock roo with a rhode island hen and getting yellow chicks and black chicks. Does anybody know if they auto sex the same as when the parents s are reversed?

I know they do not autosex. And with you getting yellow chicks, your Barred Rock rooster is not a pure Barred Rock but is a mix if he is really the father of those yellow chicks. A Barred Rock is pure for Extended Black and over a RIR hen will always give you black chicks.

I guess it’s possible the fault could be in your hen. If she is something other than a RIR and is split for dominant white some of the chicks from a BR rooster could be black, some yellow. But this is a stretch. It’s probably that the rooster not pure.

That actually makes me happy lol. .. most of my chicks are Black...1 in 4 are yellow. .I got my hens from tsc as babies and my roo from a hatchery selling babies at a flea market so it's hard to say who is pure

Does your red hen have some white tail feathers? RIR have black tail feathers White would indicate she has a copy of dominant white, some red sex links do.
Dominant white effects mostly the feathers which would have otherwise been black.
Also, No, the barred sexlink only works if the hens are the ones which are barred.
And just FYI: "autosex" is mostly used to refer to breeds which can be sexed at hatching rather than crosses

Yes she does have some white tail feathers... well a few do. .. I'm deFinitely new to the terminology for all this stuff so thank you. . My biggest concern is that most my chicks are black and I was hoping I'm getting a good mix of males and females... to be honest I don't know for positive that the hens are all rir .. they came from tsc and that's what the guy taking care of them told me. .. Its hard to say what they actually have
