Rareroo said they were Plymouth Rocks. I think that that it was meant for you to ask about pics of the rocks as the coloration should be similar. You could try again, and maybe see what a blue (or splash) sexlink looks like. male vs female.

Yeah, as I said in my previous post, she used a splash Rock roo, not a silkie, on the barred rock hens. So that's where the confusion was, the color would be the same, they just wouldn't have the silkie traits. So it was her blue sexlinked rocks that I was hoping he would have pictures of. Maybe tell her that's what she meant and see if she has any pics.

I do think it is a pullet though, I just looked at your other thread with both pics and I don't see a definite white spot so ill say pullet. She should be really cute, I love silkie crosses.

Does anyone have pictures of black sexlink chicks using a ancona rooster? I hatched 2 and one has a thin stripe across the back of its neck, I will try to take a picture later today. I just got of work and Im goin to bed!

I imagine you will get some mottling to show up in the young birds, but it will probably molt out by the time they are 4 months since it is recessive. I hatched some one time from a Speckled Sussex rooster on Barred rock hens and they had markings as chicks and feathered out with some light mottleing in the chest and it eventually molted out and then they were solid black.

Here they are, 1 week old today. I wasn't sure if they where from the cuckoo or red cochin, but I don't see any red on either, so I'm pretty sure they mom is the cuckoo.

Hi, there,

I just accidentally saw this thread. Next time, if you can take a picture from behind and above, we might be able to tell better if its a boy or a girl. From that angle, it could go 50/50, as it is lighter on the head there. Blues are harder to tell, but I have found that if you even think there might be some white there on the head, there probably is, and its probably a boy.

Ive got some 2 week old babies and happen to have 1 blue/barred male. Heres the picture of him. I circled on the head where the white can be found. On this particular one, theres a good amount of white, but I have seen then where theres just a very faint bit of white that would be about where I circled. I also took a picture of one with no white at all, to show the difference. If theres even a faint amount of white, likely its a boy.

Clint-- were you happy with the SS on the barred rocks? How well could the sexes be differentiated? I've seen pics of reddish SS chicks and black backed chicks. Which are they as pure SS?
