Pics
I have a small backyard flock and am wanting to do some sex-linking. would any of these combos make sex-links?

1-brown leghorn roo
1-barred rock roo
1-splash americauna roo
1-buff brahma roo

2-partridge americauna hens
1-brown leghorn hen
1- buff orpington hen
1-jersey giant hen
1-black star
1-new hampshire red hen

I am also looking for more hens and possibly selling my brahma roo. Thanks for the help!!!

Welcome to BYC !

YOu have a fun mix of chickens ! THe basics of the 2 sexlinks types is one is based on silver hens and the other uses barred hens. If you look at the original post, and there is a huge amount to read, the list is extensive and a great place to start to see if specific breeds will work.

SIlver hens like silver laced wyandotte or delawares need a red based rooster: RIR, buff orpington, etc.

Barred hens, like barred rocks or barred hollands, can use red-based roosters and many others like black australorp and New Hampshire. More choices for a rooster with the barred hens.

Do re-read the first post. It covers all the basics and beyond. None of your current hens fit silver or barred. As for the roosters:

1-brown leghorn roo YES
1-barred rock roo NO
1-splash americauna roo IDK, I would like to know as I have blues.
1-buff brahma roo other buffs work, maybe this one will

Sadly none of your current possible combinations will produce sex links.

Adding to the post above, the splash roo could be used over black barred hens and would produce blue pullets and blue barred cockerels.

So solid blue pullets? Right now I'm raising two lakenvelder pullets

I was advised that using blue can be a difficult color for sexing the chicks. THe color is not as dark as black and can make seeing the white spot on the head a little difficult. Do-able but not easy. I think that was TIm's point-some combinations are easier to sex. I have blue AMeraucanas so I will use them .

True, it's not as easy as on black chicks but I have some growing up now who are blue and blue barred and I could tell when they were fluffed up.

I'm planning to repeat this with my splash Silkie roo over barred Silkie x Bantam Cochins as black pullets aren't very popular here but blues sell great.
