Sex- linked Information

Is it true that you can have a sex-link off of black skin?

Meaning If my rooster is a silkie (black skin) and I hatch out an EE with yellow skin then the pullets would all be black skin?
Thats right... Sex links right there...

I'm still confused on some points.

Yes the dellies have silver--and can be used to make red sexlinked chicks.

I spent the past hour reading the first post by takenson. For the black sexlinks using barred hens, Dellies are not in the female listing for barred hens ( and not in the male side either).

I know Tim doesn't have EVERYTHING listed . . . . . I can't get my head around this.

I'm happy anyway. I did figure out I can use barring in the hens to sort male and female chicks IF the chick down is dark enough to reveal the head spot. Down of black or dark brown works. Just need to figure out which e produces the dark chick down.

My next task is to understand when the spot is white versus when it is yellowy. So far I know that bo rooster on black barred hen results in a black backed chick with pale yellow under the chin area. WHy wouldn't this type of chick also have a white, or yellowy head spot for the males?

I dont go by listing, I go by what I see, Delawares ARE sex linked Barred, and yes if you use a black or Birchen rooster over a delaware hen you will get sex links, there is nothing to debate about that..

the ONLY chick down you cant tell the head spot are on Wheaten(silver or gold ) Dominant white Birchen/Extended Black

you can use the following chick down,

Extended Black(black chick down with white/yellow head spot)
Birchen (black chick down with white/yellow head spot)
eb brown ( like partridge wyandotte chick down with head spot)
wildtype duckwing ( wildtype chicks down with white head spot)

here is a drawing of crele Old English Game chicks

Do the girls EVER have head spots?? EVen a tiny one?
only on black chick down, seems like these breeds(autosexing breeds based on sex linked barring and on other "E" allele background like eb/e+) lack this trait on crele, cream legbars and rhodebars, which are based on wildtype and eb brown for isbars...but females are darker and boys are lighter and with the headspot

here is a video of two cream legbar chicks, you can clearly see the headspot on boys, but the hen lacks the headspot all together...

Quote: Can you clarify--I"m understanding this to mean, yes the girls can have a tiny spot only on the black down male chicks and last sentence refers to the black down again or the wildtype and eb?

Or does the last sentence refer to the black: females are darker and males lighter with head spot.?

Devil is in the details. LOL

let me clarify this, barred females can ONLY have the headspot on black chick down(Extended black/Birchen) on any other "e" allele background like(eb brown or Wildtype duckwing) the girls will lack the headspot....

on autosexing breeds like the cream legbar or Crele Old English Game(bantam or standard size) that are based on wildtype or eb brown the hen has darker chick down(please watch the video) and lack any headspot, the boys will have a much lighter chick down and will have a headspot... just watch the video

when people think about autosexing breeds they often forget that the Crele OEGs are an auto sexing breed..

check below Crele OEG chicks(10 second mark)

Crele OEG day old chick down difference between sex..(boys are lighter and have the headspot, hens have normal duckwing chick down)
