I wanted to cross my SS over my Del hens, but never happened as he turned out to be mean as the devil, so he was butchered, maybe next year I will find one who is usable,or find a RIR or NHR to use to make me some BSL's with the SLW and Delaware hens.......I really like my bsl hens they lay great nice even huge dark eggs I suspect BCM is them somewhere, or wellie the eggs are also speckled from one of them..... but they are great egg layers, molted and went right back at it with the porcupine quills still not feathered out....Suzi has yet stopped laying or is not molting I'm afraid she is gonna freeze winter, bare backed almost no tail feathers no butt feathers either poor girl.......... wonder why she hasn't molted when everyone else did? anyone have a guess at that one?.......Kim

if you use a red rooster, you will get red sex links from your SLWs

You also get red sex links with a red rooster over a Delaware. Here is a red sex link from a Speckled Sussex rooster over a Delaware hen. The barring is there too but you cannot see it on the down. You can see it on the tail and hackle feathers when he matures. It's on the saddle feathers too but you have to look a bit harder.

700

Some of his offspring were barred all over (some, not all) but they were offspring of mixed breeds bred to mixed with different breeds of hens to start with. The genetics were really mixed up by then.

Hi! I need a little help on a project I've got going. I'm going to be putting my silver laced wyandotte rooster over my leghorn hens for a while. So I thought it would be fun to make sex links. Which, if any, will make sex links with him here's the colors I have in leghorns;
White
Barred
Exchequer
brown
Silver
Mottled or ancona
Blue Andalusian
I read the first page in this thread and if I understand it correctly the ancona and exchequer will work.
Thanks!

Not sure if it will work but the Silver Laced rooster may work over the Barred Leghorns for black sex links. Generally though people use a red rooster over silver or barred hens. Reread the thread I think you have the formula backward, the hens have to be silver or barred to do the sex links.

Quote: KOwing a bit about genetics--25% is genetic. THat is a high number. I have had recessives show up in my sheepflock, and with 3 out of 20 lambs showing the anomoly, I changed rams and the problem has not occurred again. I can breed back to the ram again and then ID the carriers.

Well I didn't hatch many chicks of that cross, so 25% is 1/4 I hatched LOL. Sorry, should have just said that.

At least it's not anything dangerous, and you wouldn't show crosses. A missing nail I can handle. Wry tail would not be something I would want in any cross.
