Sex- linked Information

so thats a no... sad i really want a sexable (at birth) hybrid that has the features of the isabrown

It is my understanding that the Isa Brown is a hybrid and as a hybrid it won't create a sex link not matter who it is crossed with. Someone correct me if I am wrong but I believe you have to start with purebred chickens.

The Isa Brown is similar to other red sex links in many ways...looks and production in particular so maybe one of those will meet your needs as well. Good Luck.

you could try and do the following project..

Isa brown mated to production type RIR(Hatchery type, usually lay batter than Heritage) this cross will give you gold F1 roosterst, cross them back to more ISA Browns, this make them regain their ISa Brown laying ability, the BC1 gold roosters can be used for a gold/Silver sex link project..

Thank you. I don't understand genetics of the chicken color but it makes my brain hurt. (need to do some research about that

) In the first cross who would be the roo. What would you cross the BC1 with to get the sex links or would those be the sex links?

Thank you so much!! You helped me a lot!
IF you or anyone ever gets the chance of obtaining a ISA Brown Rooster(very hard as they are Obviously different from the ISA Hens, most are killed, but sometimes just sometimes someone gets the chance at getting one)

here is how they look

now if you get one of them and also the ISA brown hens you can cross them together and create 2 separate lines from them, so you can use them as Sex linked again..

you see this roosters have one copy of Silver and one copy of gold, when mated to ISA brown hens they have 50% at producing 100% gold roosters, (which is good as they will be used with your ISA pullets to produce your Gold line of ISA) and 50% of producing Silver Pullets, which is good because you can use them to create 100% Silver ISA roosters(when crossed back to ISA Brown Rooster parent).

I've got that combination and will be setting their eggs next week. Let's see if this works:
ISA males are het for gold, but silver is dominant
ISA females are gold (no silver present)
when crossed, you get:
males - 50% het for gold (silver phenotype) and 50% homozygous for gold (gold phenotype)
females - 50% gold and 50% silver

If you cross the gold males to the silver females, you get the equivalent of the original cross that create ISA's, right?
Or, could I use the silver hens with a Welsummer roo to get sex links with darker eggs?
