Sex- linked Information

Yeah I will have to agree with you. Darn was hoping for a blue barred. It would have made it easier to sell him. I'll just wait till he get the silkie mix poof on his head. that way he will at least look cute and unique.

Can a R.I. red roo be used on a White Rock hen or a columbian wyandotte to produce red sex-links?

Read the first post in this thread where Tadkerson explains it. He also provides a chart in that post that answers your question. Notice there is an astericks by the White Rocks. There is an "it depends" associated with them.

Draye, why would the barring stop you from making a red sex link? I've used a Delaware hen that is barred to make a red sex link with a Speckled Sussex rooster. You just can't see the spot from the barring on the offspring at hatch so you can't also call them black sex links, though the male offspring is barred and the female is not. You definitely could tell the sex of the chicks at hatch by the down coloring, red versus yellow.

I'm not sure what genetics Tadkerson is talking about as being a possible problem with the White Rock hens. I think it might have to do with dominant white, but I'm not sure.

I 'll be back in a bit and try put it down to where it will make sense.
Maybe I can spell right too.

Okay maybe I misunderstood, but I copied this from the first post on this thread:

I think what it was I was told that most White Rock's do not carry the silver gene.
Anyway it might be worth a try to make a sexlink with one.

I have learned that dominant white can be in a number of birds, when I crossed my blue Americana over my easter eggers hens, the white hens produced white chicks with flecks, not the expected black or blue chicks.

Dominant white covers the colorings you are using to separate the males and females; both will be white with dominant white. Hence use of white birds are usually not used.
