red or gold sex link chicks are like this: light colored chicks are boys and the rust colord chicks are girls. "Red Star" is more of a brand name. hatcherys have there own genetic "recipe" that go in to their sex links so they give them names like Red Star. in sex linked chicks the males grow out with their mothers feather color and the females grow out with more of the fathers colors...for example say a Rhode Island red roo over a white hen say like a Deleware, then the roos will be white and the hens will be mostly red with some white feathers here and there,in black sex links the red dad makes red and black hens and the boys turn out barred like the mother...arent genetics somthin'?
