I read an article about mandarin ducks changing sex, is it possible for mallard type duck's to change sex ?
I have some mallards but I don't think thoroughbreds, smaller than standard, they had beautiful green/blue heads which have turned brown, silver plumage which is turning brown too. Today a a large drake someone identified as could be a swedish blue was on the back of one mating with it !!!
How bizarre is this.

I thought one was a snowy drake.

Could be that they're just molting for the year. Their plumage changes to look more like a female so they can be more camouflage. They change back to their brighter colors right before mating season starts to attract females.

Very pretty fowl, where are you located ?
