Hi all - we're thinking ahead and would love to get a few (3 or 4) Muscovy ducks, but we're really not in a position to have male ducks. We've used Metzer in the past for other breeds, but it looks like they only sell unsexed Muscovies, does anyone know where you can get sexed Muscovy ducklings? We know it's not a sure thing, but like the chances of a sexed run.

Many thanks!
Kathryn

I don't believe any company does sell sexed Muscovy ducklings. If you only want females, you may need to buy older ducks. At 5-8 weeks you can tell them apart by size. I got mine at around this age and they are rather social considering we didn't raise them as ducklings.

The only other thing would be if someone has sex linked ducklings.

Thank you! Do you know if the hatcheries sell ducklings at that age, or do you generally have to find a local source?

I have never seen them sell anything but day old ducklings. Your best bet is to find a local source. Local sources also will likely have other colors than white. I have a black, 2 blues, and what I believe is a lilac colored muscovy. You may even find someone on BYC who breeds in your area. You can always try asking on your state thread.
