Sexing 1 month old mutts

Ok, I have a couple comb pictures. My camera isn't good for close-ups, though, so only two turned out good. Here:

This is one of the EE mixes I hatched. He hatched on 10/10 and his comb is quite large and red, so I'm thinking roo.

This one is 5 or 6 weeks old. I was told she was an Australorp o.o How do you think that's an Australorp?! She's blue! That's why I got her, though. I like mutts.

#1 given that's over 4 weeks old, that would be about right for a cockerel

#2 5-6 weeks old, small, and more flesh colored than red... 90% pullet.

Good comb picture tip... take the chick you want to snap a comb pic of, place some food in a pile, and keep your camera handy. Saves on trying to hold them, the camera, and focus all at the same time.

I'll probably just end up waiting to figure it out...

Thanks for the tips about taking comb photos, my chickens are very uncooperative

If your camera has a "macro" setting (my Canon point and shoot has an icon of a flower) that will be useful for taking close-up pictures. Or you could have the chicken farther away and use the zoom. I've been getting pretty spiffy with my little "bare bones" camera between having chicks and kittens over the past few months...

Might want to do it at night while they're sleepy, though, if you can bring them inside one by one, since macro setting is for things that don't move...
