Hello! I am going to go pick up a 10 week old oliver egger chick tomorrow. The mommy is a black Americana and the daddy is a blue copper maran rooster. The gender of the chicks is unknown and I am not allowed to have roosters per my city zoning.

Can anyone give me any tips on what to look for to increase my odds of hopefully ending up with a pullet. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I really would LOVE those pretty eggs.

Thank you!!

I am picking them up tomorrow from someone who posted an ad locally. Below is the pic in the ad which is all I have at the moment (and I am pretty sure is completely unhelpful). She has 5 chicks and I am going to pick one. I have no idea what to look for and will not get to see them until I am there to take one home. Unfortunately. Some are 10 weeks and some are 8.

Pullet:
Even round feathering
Small pink comb, may be nonexistent
Small feet
Less upright pose
Often smaller the roos
Roo:
Might have some pointy saddle feathers coming along
Less even feathering
Look in the feathers see if their are any shiny ones coming
Bigger comb, redder
Big feet
More upright stance
Might be bigger

Hope that helped

From that pic, I see what looks like two hens and two cockerals. The pullets seem to be the ones to the left. At 8-10 weeks, it should be easy to tell which are male and female though. Cockerals have red combs. Your best bet is to pick one that has the lightest/smallest comb and thin legs.
