i bought 4 silkies unsexed and am not allowed to have roosters. i know it wont be a hundred percent acurate, but i just wanted to have an idea of what sexes these might be. (11 weeks old) (first two are same chick)
chick 1 (suspected boy)
chick 2 (suspected girl)
I would also guess a boy for number one because he looks like he has a nice big nut forming over his beak. (although I know silkies are notorious hard to sex) I also bought unsexed silkie chicks for my no-roosters-allowed home and had the same thing happen. The breeder I bought them from told me to watch for that and sure enough it slowly started to appear then one day the crowing started. I was very sad because he was so sweet and so pretty, but I exchanged him for a second try. My hen was much smaller and had no nut at all. Good luck! I LOVE silkies so much.
Here is the rooster. Fabulous. (The hen is my avatar)
also i noticed that two of them have very bright blue earlobes, and the other ones have duller earlobes. could this have something to do with their sex?
I have read that the color of the earlobes has to do with the color of the eggs the bird lays. However I am not certain this is always true and I don't know how it applies to silkies.
I've heard Silkies can be hard to sex even up to 6 months old age. But in my opinion, #1 looks like a roo, #2 looks like a female, #3 *might* (I stress this) be a roo, and #4 might (another stress here) be a female. They're surely cute though, so congratulations on them anyway.
