Hi everyone I'm new i looked quick and could'nt find anything for my needs and dont have alot of time to search out things. I have 8 - 4 week old buff orpington chicks still inside under a heat lamp. sometimes they fight for a second outside and some seem to have combs pail pail pink and others have none some have little tiny waddles kinda like a bottom comb almost is there a way to sex them in a week or so or even now? I really appreciate it im new to everything. Thanks again.

Pics will help a lot. I got four Buff Orpington chicks last spring: three were ladies and one was a roo. His comb was a good deal bigger than the ladies pretty early on, and he carried himself a bit more upright than the girls.

For the record, Biff (who was Buffy until we realized he was a roo) is the sweetest rooster I've ever met. His counterpart, Sal, (originally Sally) is a NH Red, and he's not nearly as friendly.

I seperated the 4i think might be roosters sens then the other 4 aren't being picked on anymore and they are very quiet where as the roosters are louder scratching up everything and kinda bullying each other are they roosters?

That first chick is certainly eyeing the camera like a rooster. Watch their combs though! The roos combs will really start to look far more pronounced than the girls, and probably soon!

Yup I had 8 straight run chicks half were roosters but I sold them today for same money as I bought them all for so i built the coop scrap wood with old and scrap chicken wire so I have like 20 bucks in 50 pounds feed that's it

We are new to all this. We have 11 chickens about 3 weeks old now. We think 2 maybe roosters. Don't know how to tell. What is the 'comb' you keep talking about? Should I be seperating them from the rest of the chickens at this point?

What kind of chicks do you have? The comb is the wavy flap of skin that grows above there beak. Roos will get biger faster and usually turn pink or red faster than the girls. And you don't need to desperate them unless you see a problem. I have 7 chicks in my coop and I know there are a few roosters but I've never needed to separate them.

I don't know the breeds yet. We have maybe 3 different breeds. I got them from a first grade teacher at the school where I work. She got the eggs from a friend and hatched them in the classrooom. I was told they are from different hens, and they don't look alike. From looks and behavior, we have 7 roosters and 4 hens. That's too many roosters. I only want one rooster. Do you know how I can give them away? I don't want to kill them. To new to all of this for that step right now.
