Alot of people say roo soon as they see a big comb i wouldnt be so sure yet the black ones look to be due to what looks to be there saddle feathers coming in the white ones its hard to tell would like to see a pic further back of there saddles. There legs aswell you cant really make a accurate decision on just seeing the combs i have had plenty of hens with big combs and waddles. The saddles should be growing in on any roosters between now and the next few weeks you can sex any birds outside of silkies and seabrights this way as far as i know im sure if im wrong on that the next post will be correcting me lol.
As much as most of them look like roosters, I wouldn't be so sure. The white ones are leghorns, correct? If so both genders will grow a big comb and wattles. I really am not sure on these. Sorry.
How old and what breed? Looks like a bunch of black sexlink pullets to me, and some leghorns that could be either, depending on age. If they are younger than 4 mos, then yes, all boys.
thanks for all the info guys. As for the breed have no idea. I work in a child care centre and we got the eggs as an educational program for the kids to see what happens when a chick hatches. we have 5 black/brown chicks and 5 white with specks of brown on them. I was really hoping to have some hens out of the 10 that hatched. They are at the moment 9 weeks old. I know that i have some roosters as i have heard them crowing. I will try and get some better photos of them and add them to my post. If anyone can tell me what breed or cross breed they are that would be great.
Ok i think im only seeing one hen now, the very last picture, Possibly the very top picture could be a pullet but I'm still inclined to think it is a boy. This is just my opinion, hopefully someone will come along and tell me that Im wrong. Sandy
Hi Sandy, when would be the best time to put the young chooks with the older ones (which are 2 and 1/2 years old). I have them in the same pen but separated so they can see each other but have no contact. Theres one hen who looks like she wants the chicks for dinner ha ha . She is quite aggressive towards them Im guessing she is, so to speak, top hen. What do you think?? Tracey

Out of those pics I only see one girl and she is in the last picture. I am about 99% sure that the one in the first pic is a roo, and 100% sure the rest of them are roos.

Hi Tracey, I would wait til there roughly the same size, and since you have a hen that may be aggressive toward them (by the way, is she the head hen?) I would put her in with all the chicks, instead of putting the chicks in with all the other grown birds, (how many big girls do ya got?) she may chase them, and pick on them for a little while but my guess is that she will be overwhelmed and hopefully give up pretty quickly. if not take her out and give it alittle more time, so they have alittle more age and size and them (babies) and try again. Thats what I would do. Hope this helps, Sandy
So sorry I guess you did say you thought your older hen was boss, sorry i missed that. My head hen was really hard on the youngsters when they first went in, the head hen will do that to keep her head position secure. But as soon as she had them believing she was all that the trouble stopped and she was back to her old self.
