So you think you have a rooster.. This chick is picking fights with whoever will have him. He stands tall, is first to your hand for treats and has a look that screams rooster... DO NOT give a chick away by behaviour, personality and stance alone. I was told over and over again that my little white leghorn mix was definitely a rooster. No way you will be seeing eggs from that one, etc. I was the first to say these things.. I was certain this little leghorn mix was a roo from the week I brought it home - just by stance. He always stood upright and had this broad chest. He also had a pink comb as early as week 4, though it wasn't sizable, it was still pink.. He was friendly and assertive. He stood on guard and warned his sisters when a crow passed overhead. Follow the growth.

week 7 by week 10 I was questioning my initial judgement that this chick was a rooster..

at 14 weeks old I was certain I was wrong. She was dubbed Cathy.

Cathy @ 17 weeks Cathy is right around 20 weeks and her 1/2 sister started laying two weeks ago. Don't always assume you have a roo unless they have a big red comb on top of the behaviours I mentioned. Your chick has hope. Don't jump to conclusions if you have a 4 week old chick cockfighting and strutting around. It isn't always as it seems...

also check out her legs they are thin, most cockerels will have thicker legs (not always)

thats why i also put not always in that statement
