Hopefully this is the right place to post this...

I'm looking to add one more pullet to my flock and I found someone on CL who has some straight run Black Copper Marans. The ad says they're 6 to 8 weeks old. I've already got a roo that I'm not supposed to keep since we're in the city (gonna try though

) so I really don't want to end up with another one. I know my BO was obviously a roo by this age... Will the same be true of the Marans? If not are there any characteristics that will help me pick a pullet and not a roo?

Thanks!

By 6-8 weeks it's pretty easy to tell. The roosters have much larger combs. My rooster started feathering in with copper on his chest by that age, but the pullets were still all black.

Here's my thread. Ended up being girl, boy, girl. But that last one kept me guessing for a long time. They are almost 9 weeks old now and 1 girl has coppering around her neck. (not in the chest though)

And a picture of her now at 8 weeks: (ignore the nosey ameraucana in the background)
