Sexing and breed

I need a little help. I’m a new chick owner by happenstance. My neighbor bought chicks and decided the weren’t for her. So she knocked on my door tonight and handed me these little boogers to see if I would take them since she knew I kept hens.

They came from tractor supply. My guess was barred rocks but I’m no pro at this. They are about 3 weeks old. Can anyone tell me what breed I may have and if they can be sexed yet? We cannot have a roo. Also, their legs are black down the front.

Thanks in advance.

So actually, I should rename this thread “help me do things” because I kinda got thrown into this and wasn’t really prepped. I have basics but I need to start working toward the end goal here. Things I need advice on:

1) quick temporary outdoor coop set up for 4. Like. A quick cheap option. ( new permanent coop for 6 being constructed this fall).

2) what is normal chick behavior? They all will like rush my hand all bucked up and tall like they’re meanies, particularly one yellow one. Is it just practicing chicken behavior?

3) best method of taming chicks? These are our pets. We want them to be cool with us. Maybe even cuddly. Who knows.

4) about 3 weeks old. Do we need grit and dust yet?

Tackle any. Tackle all. I’m behind the 8 ball and want to do right by them.

All of your questions can be answered by searching in the individual threads and forums on BYC! You will also get more answers by posting the individual questions in the forums they belong to. For example, coop building or chick behavior.
I will answer your last question! I add grit when they are about two weeks of age, sooner if they are going to be on grass or outdoors at all or eating anything other than chick crumble.
Good luck with your new adventure!😊

Thanks so much. I’m still fairly new to the forum and trying to master the search function giving me what I want. I certainly don’t want to be redundant or waste anyones time. Thanks for the direction.

Oh no you’re not wasting anyone’s time! Everybody here is happy to help. It’ll just give you better answers and more answers if you post in the individual forums.😊

Is there a place best fitted where I can post our chicks journey? I wasn’t planning on doing chicks until next spring, but since we were just kind of gifted these guys we are dropping back and punting. I’d love to document them growing up for those interested in their journey.
