Sexing as ducklings....

Hello all--

Next month I will be getting 2 more ducks from my local farm/tractor supply store. I currently have 1 female and 1 male--I am seriously hoping for two more females. But, they aren't sexed at the store-so what you get is what you get. While I have watched countless videos on vent sexing--I'm not sure I feel comfortable standing there in the store violating a few ducks while people watch in awe.

Are there any ways to tell gender by their coloring at such a young age?

I'm not a duck expert, but as far as I know, there aren't usually color differences in male/female ducks at that age. Only when they get older do the ducks and drakes develop different coloration. Vent sexing is the only reliable way to tell when they're ducklings, though even that isn't really reliable unless it is done by a professional.

Thank you, Amiga! I've decided to bite the bullet---order online and pay $84.00 in shipping. But, at least this way I know I'll be getting females. I am ordering chicks too. Apparently the selection at the farm stores during the fall aren't the same as spring
