I saw a video today on tiktok where this lady said she was able to sex couple days old chicks by looking at the vent and tail (not vent sexing). She said boy chicks have a fluff ball under the tail above the vent and girls don't. Got me wondering if this is true for any breeds? I know lots of people trust wing sexing but those don't work til couple weeks old if it works at all. I know there are tons of ways once they are 6-8 weeks or older. I'm just really curious of it's true or just what this lady does and somehow gets it right. I don't have any chicks right now so can't go test it. Here's a screenshot where I circled the fluff ball that's above the vent. Bad quality video so hard to see

There are a lot of people who will claim to be able to tell by some method or another. Rings on strings, throwing an object overhead to watch reactions, etc, etc. No need to waste time on any of those, flip a coin and you will be right just as often. 😉
I figured so

What you are calling wing sexing doesn't work. True wing sexing does work but there are conditions. It has to be done right after hatch, not later. And, most importantly, the parents have to be set up correctly genetically for it to work. Some commercial operations and some of the hatcheries we use wing sex some of their chicks, it can be very reliable but the parents have to be set up correctly genetically.

I agree with the others. There are a lot of ways people say you can sex chicks. A few of then work if they are set up correctly genetically, but a lot of them do not. I'd trust a coin flip as much as that fluffball test.
