I know that a male Bourbon Red will have black edging on his breast feathers and a hen will have white edging. At what age is this apparent? How old would they need to be before I can tell them apart? Thanks!

really white edging? darn my hen must not be colored right I just went out and looked and the edging is a little lighter colored red than the whole feather but def not white . . . oh well!

You should be able to see the lacing as soon as they get real feathers in. Definitely by 3 or four months but by then you should also be seeing the other signs as well. So far I've only had Bourbons and Midgets and I'm getting pretty good at sexing the Bourbons. The problem is those darn Midgets, since they're white you can't really tell anything until they're just about sexually mature.
