On the show how its made they did a show on hatcheries. They showed the workers sexing chicks by their wings. If all the little feathers were all even then it was a male if some were shorter than others then they were female. I thought this was very interesting. I was wondering if I'm the only one in the world that didn't know that? If I'm not the only one then I guess you have learned it too.

this is not true on all breeds of chickens, they have to be bred to show that trait. i didn't know about that either till i got into chickens.

some can also be color sexed at that early age.

I have a light sussex bantam that I sexed in this way and if this method is correct I will have a pullet! or does it not work for this breed? all I know is when she was a day old her primaries were longer than her coverts looking very much like the picture shown here http://animalsciences.missouri.edu/reprod/ReproTech/Feathersex/sld003.htm although her behaviour is male like as she attacks things that she's afraid of with her feet?! it's the only chick I have at the mo but fingers crossed i'll have some more soon!
