I was talking to a local farmer last night and he said roosters tail feathers are longer at 2 weeks of age. Has anyone heard this? Has anyone ever paid attention to see?

Opposite. Roosters grow slower. Now their combs might be bigger. Not 100% sure so hopefully somebody else will correct me. Mostly you probably have a hen if its groeing feathers quickly. Roosters take just a tad bit longer to grow

Now I'm really confused(doesn't take much). That information came from a farmer that has been raising chickens for many years. He has a brooder full of RIR's because they have long tail feathers and everyone thinks they are roosters. Anyone else have an ideal.

There are all kinds of ideas on sexing chicks, but unless you know how to look in their butts none is 100%. Some breeds do have ways but even then the odds are not 100% Even the experts get it wrong once in a while.

I guess I will have to play the waiting game. I bought 17 chicks with the intention of keeping 10(9 hens and 1 rooster). I hope everything turns out ok.
