Sexing eggs!

I have a collumbine hybrid hen, Callie, who lays only pointed eggs but I am setting hers anyway, I have sorted the least pointy from the very pointy. I am interested to see if she does only lay boys, I think it could easily be possible to have a hen who mostly lays a single sex egg. My BCM Karen lays mostly round so I set all of hers and so far have had mostly girls but with one cockerel thrown in from her. On the plus side he was a gorgeous cocky fellow, really sweet natured, I managed to rehome him too.

thank you for the information. my BCM lays round eggs and I hope to get girls from her. my NNs lay pointy eggs and I got 2 girls from the less pointy eggs. the others didn't hatch.

My welsummer girl lays pretty pointy eggs and 9 out of her 11 eggs were male. One of the females she had came from am egg that I do recall thinking was oddly shaped, more like a ping pong ball than an egg. So maybe...

I just confirmed that my cockerel is fertilizing eggs and now i am ready to start raising chicks. I plan to broody raise them and i am planning on getting a caliper to measure egg dimensions and a scale to weigh the eggs. I thot about building something to candle eggs but think i am going to forgoe that since i want to broody hatch and i dont want to disturd my hen any more than necessary.

Anyway, i am going to attemp sexing eggs n i will keep u all informed.

Ooops... Forgot to mention what chickens will be in my egg sexing experiment....

1) Yzma is an easter egger who lays giant green eggs 7 days in a row before taking a day off.
2) Penny is a gold laced wyandotte who lays nice large eggs 4-5 days a week.
3) Aspen is a columbian wyandotte who probably wont be participating because she is a new layer and her eggs are still small. I am including her because i dont know when I will get a broody hen and her eggs could be big enough by then.

Cockerel:
Helios is 8 months old and supposed to be a standard welsummer. He is just now starting to get his manly feathers as he was not dominant in his previos flock so i cant be certain yet. He is an amazing cockerel already. I have even seen him set on eggs. I think he will be excellent at raising them and a good genetic specimen because of his behavioral traits even if he turns out not to be a wellie.

My hen with the pointy eggs is named Penny, too! She's a welsummer and a great hen. I didn't set her eggs this time because I couldn't decide on ones I liked. She just started laying regularly for the season and doesn't have good consistency yet. Her daughter is just 8 eggs in to her first laying season, so I didn't set hers yet, either.

I set some barnyard mixes and hope that one of my welsummers sired some of those chicks. I love the look of wellie eggs, but they're pretty small compared to my other layers. I'm hoping to get a larger egg, but similarly coloured/speckled with dad dna.

I'm so excited to report back on my hatch! They're due around the 7th (one on the 10th that was set late), though I'm sure it'll be another few weeks before I'm sure because I'm no good at vent sexing!

You should get red sexlinks from Aspen.
