sexing hens on bones

i heard that if you feel around a hens vent for two pelvic bones, you have a female...is this ture? do males not have the same pelvic bones as females?

I'm not sure, though I would think it's the space between the bones that you would look for. I know on my coturnix, both males and females have 2 bones, but the width of the male's is about an inch, the females is almost twice as wide.

I should add that it only works on the coturnix if the females are laying eggs. If that's the case with chickens, I think one would know by then
