Hi all,

I’ve raised a number of chicks over the years and had successfully pinpointed sex of the chicks through the usual (comb, wattle, feather shape, behaviour, size etc etc). However this little chick has me baffled! She is the only chick 🐣 so I’ve nothing to compare it with. Her Dad I’m guessing is a buff laced polish bantam (he’s adopted), the reason I’m not 100% sure is due to him having a small crest. The chicks Mum is. Sapphire Emerald. I’ll enclose pics of Dad, Mum and the chick who is now 6 weeks old! I know I need to wait a bit longer - I’m just being impatient! Any help would be appreciated!

Looks like a boy to me
Your rooster is lovely by the way

I'm voting male at this time.

The comb is only slightly larger than I would expect on a pullet. But those wattles, those are much bigger than I would expect from a 6 week old pullet. I'm leaning boy at this time.

Thank you, he is very handsome and knows it! What makes you say boy? I know he has very pink waggles, but a pale comb. I’m praying it’s a girl! 🤦‍♀️

Going by the size and color of the comb at 6 weeks, I think the chick is male.

The father is a buff laced Polish mix, not purebred.
Thanks 🙏

Thanks! Seems everyone thinks a boy! I’m hoping not but Suspect you are all right unfortunately.

What would you guess as my Rooster’s mix?

Thanks 🙏

He's partly buff laced Polish for sure. But his comb and eye color are both wrong for purebred Polish, and his crest is too small. The other parent could be a Gold Sebright bantam, but there is no way to know for sure. He is very pretty!

Six weeks is a little on the young side to be sure. I would be surprised, but there's a chance we might be wrong. If it were me I would wait until I was certain before rehoming or sending to the freezer. I'm sure we'd all love updates as he grows to see if we guessed right or not.

Absolutely - I’ll keep you updated!
The last three chicks I hatched a few years ago were all girls! So I’m guessing I’m due a boy! 50/50!
