Sexing juvenile mallard?

Morty is about 7 weeks old, he was very lonely when my sister brought him to us and lives with his chicken siblings. So far no quacking and that makes me think boy. Can his lack of duckmates affect his vocalisations?

She looks female to me. She has the two tone beak and two tone feathers above the tail. I have a 2 year silver Swedish from a friend who kept her with chickens. I did not hear her quack for months after I got her. Now, of course, she won’t shut up.

You mean if there aren't any other ducks around to talk to, a duck simply won't talk? That's an interesting question. Why not get another duck?

That’s what I’ve been hoping My sister is an obsessive googler and there’s a few very slight differences (like how dark the face markings are when hatched) that has all been pointing female. I just didn’t know drakes were so hard of hens and we’ve already upset the kids with likely needing to rehome one of the roos. Loosing three of them would be really hard

Yes, no idea if that’s even possible lol. We looked for other ducklings first and nothing available unfortunately

Female and some ducks are quiet even females. I have a couple that rarely ever quack.

We have a quack! I forgot I let them all out to the big pen and had to round them up for bed, she was very displeased and let me know lol
