Hi!
I got two muscovy ducklings in May, they just turned 3 months old now. I've never had muscovy ducks before and I'm having trouble figuring out their sex. At first I thought they were male and female because one was much bigger than the other, but now they're the same size. I think they might be two drakes maybe, what do you think?

Lovely ducklings! They do look pretty darn sturdy! Do you have other adult ducks to compare their size to? At 3 months of age, mine (both hens, though I didn’t know it at the time) were about 60-70% of the size of my adult Rouen (who is 6 lbs.). I don’t have great pictures from 12 weeks, but here is one of my more feminine ‘Scovy when she was two weeks older than yours. You can see her slender legs and overlapping feet, both which are traits of a hen.

Unless it’s just that your pictures are so up close, it looks like your two are quite large and solid! Would you be disappointed if they are both drakes?

Here are my girls at 3 months of age, on the day that they realized they could fly to the top of the stall door! They are of crappy quality, but maybe it will help you compare.

I have a male and a female that are both about the same age as yours. My female is still very petite and the male is already bigger than my 5 month old ancona drake. In fact, the Male is almost twice the size of the female. The male also has much larger feet and a flat tail as apposed to the pointed tail of the female but you cant always go off of that. It looks as though you may have 2 males as I dont see much difference in size and that is a surefire way of sexing at this age.

Thanks! Your girl is really pretty too!
Sadly I don't have any adult muscovy ducks to compare them to, I only have a Mallard duck which is already much smaller than them!
Here is a picture of one of them with my mum for reference, they are pretty big!!

I wouldn't be disappointed at all! I just hope they will get along and not fight each other or stuff like that. Can two males get along just fine? That's all that matters to me :)

Well when I first got into Muscovy it was 2 drakes that lived in the river below us. They were best buddies did everything together. Then I had a wild idea to go get some females and even though the girls lived up at the house with me the boys found out about them and the trouble began. So as long as you don’t introduce any female ducks you maybe okay. And if you have chickens you will want to keep your hens away from these Boys a drake mating a chicken is pretty much a death sentence. Your boys are beautiful.
