Hello All -

We have 7 Buff Oprington ducks, we believe there are 5 females and 2 males. We tried looking for the sex feather last night, but all the feathers were completely straight, so I'm thinking maybe buff ducks do not have a visible sex feather. We've tried voice sexing, but there are too many of them for us to be able to properly distinguish a "duck quack" vs a "squeaky quack". What is another way for us to be able to identify the sex of them visually? Some have really dark bills, some have light bills, and some have a mixture between light and dark ones.

Buff drakes have beautiful dark heads and they do get the drake feather but that usually starts to show around 3 months voice sexing is usually first. How old are your buffs? Pick each one up and walk away from the others that is about the only way you can get a clear sound of each duck.

They are 5 months old, all their heads are roughly the same color, not any darker or lighter then the other. There is also no drake feathers visible on any of them, but I've definitely been seeing them doing a lot of *ahem* activity in the morning times.

They are really easy to tell apart if you catch one of the ducks and listen to the noise it makes away from the other ducks.
The females are very different sounding than the males. The females quack loudly, and the males make a raspy noise that's not very loud.

I guess I'm gonna have to try to catch them tonight when I pen them up to see who is who.
