Sexing Pekins

Scott I think (stress think since I can hear their quakes) they are both girls. I would think by 19 weeks the drake curl would be there... Mine was but I only have one drake so...
Hfcristy I only have one male and while he gets louder when I pick him up he still sounds totally different from the girls.
Thanks for the input ... it is strange to me that the first thing they do in the morning when we let them out of their pen is jump in the pond and have a mating exercise .... perhaps this is not unusual but it happens a couple of times a day. Their vocalizations are a bit different with one being the big mouth traditional AFLAC duck and the other being pretty mellow. That being said, when the are following up for a treat of watermellon or squash they do sound pretty similar. A bit strange indeed.

I tried to take a video, but these same ducks that normally eat from my hand apparently think I'm a monster when I get the camera out. I ended up with lots of footage of duck statues.
What about a "putt-putt-putt" sound?

Here is a bit of video from this morning ... thought I had them doing their mating dance but forgot to press record on the old iPhone (next time) ... I hear two distinct voices but wonder others thoughts.

I only hear a "honk honk" quack..typical of girls. Maybe you could separate them and record each quack as maybe I am hearing the only one..?

These are not my ducks but it really helps explain the different sound, I definitely have one male and one female by these sounds

the male in that video would be the quieter more raspy quack..he doesnt have his drake feather because he appears to be still getting adult feathers

THANKS! I watched that video and was surprised at the difference in voice ... perhaps I do have two girls but why all the ritualistic mating behavior?

This is by far the best sound video I found of a pekin drake. It helped me figure out that I had one.
